stab & grab

- Join us on Saturday afternoons for fun, fencing and lots of food at our weekly Stab & Grab tournaments.
Because most of us at the Red Rock Fencing Center can't get enough fencing, we added a weekly Sunday tournament we affectionately call Stab & Grab.
The "stab" stands for the fencing and the "grab" for the potluck we have after each tournament. We begin warming up around 1 pm and the tournament begins promptly at 1 pm. for Épée and at 2 p.m. for Foil. Many fencers staying afterward to continue fencing.
NOTE: Stab & Grab tournaments are cancelled on tournament days.
Stab & Grab Format
We start by drawing cards. Ranking means nothing on Saturdays but rather it's the "luck of the draw" that determines each fencer's placement in the tournament.
We fence single-elimination 5-touch bouts. Winners advance to the next round and losers repose to an open strip to keep on fencing with other "losers," or they start in on the potluck.
All Red Rock members and out -of-town fencers are welcome to participate
This is a free tournament and fencers from all levels are welcome to participate. We ask that you bring some food for the potluck.
Pierre Reposte
Each week, the Stab & Grab coveted trophy -- Pierre Reposte -- gets a new owner.
To ensure everyone has an opportunity to win Pierre Reposte, fencers who win the tournament begin the next week with a handicap point against them.
For example, a fencer who has won the Stab & Grab tournament three times begins all his bouts with three touches against him. His opponent need only score two points to win!

- Series 2 - Dec. 2009-2010
- Series 1 - April-Dec. 2009
When a fencer wins five tournaments, that person becomes the champion and earns a coveted grand prize. Then, we start the series all over again, and everyone begins without any touches against them. We've made it through two full series, and both were won by teen fencer Filip Peradovic, who also won the grand prize - a ceremonial sword.
